Congenital Absence of Nose

Abstract
Instances of congenital malformation of the nose are occasionally seen. Examples are; complete absence of an external nose, button like nose with no nostrils, one nostril being present the other absent, posterior nasal occlusion, a bifid nose, and a deformed nose as in "Cyclops". They are all extremely rare, but the rarest form in that of complete absence of one half of the nose. Reports in literature on such a case are rare.
Flap reconstruction of the nose is historically one of the earliest surgical operations In spite of this long experience, little has been reported on the viability and durability of the various flaps and time involved in the reconstruction, including the number of operative procedures required for total reconstruction of the nose.
Even major reviews of the subject do not provide a complete perspective on the problem.
